Rani Mukerji signs her first film post motherhood

There ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone. We have to wait for paparazzi clicks or airport spotting to catch a glimpse of Rani Mukerji. She’s been missing from the big screen ever since she’s embraced motherhood (last we saw her in Mardaani in 2014). Currently enjoying her time with daughter Adira, Rani is now ready to roll on the silver screen yet again.

If rumours are to be believed, Mrs. Chopra has green lighted Siddharth Malhotra’s (of the We Are Family fame) next directorial venture with YRF. The film is going to be a biopic. What’s more… this script was first offered to Priyanka Chopra.

Well, no official confirmation has come our way from YRF so far but let’s cross our fingers and hope this news is true.

Do you know Kareena Kapoor Khan had initially turned down Saif’s proposal?

Hotshot couple Kareena Kapoor Khan and husband Saif Ali Khan are due to have their first baby soon and are in a happy phase of their lives. The two tied the knot in 2012 after dating for five years. We happened to come across some interesting trivia about their royal romance. On a recent TV show Kareena revealed the first time Saif proposed to her. “He actually proposed to me in a couple of months after we met… in Paris. In fact, his father (the late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi) had also proposed to his mother (Sharmila Tagore) in Paris when she was shooting for An Evening in Paris there. And we were on a holiday in Paris as well,” she shared.

Actually, Saif proposed to her twice in a span of a few days. The first proposal happened when they were at the Ritz Hotel in Paris. “It was at the bar and I said no. Then there was one more time, during the same trip… We were at the Notre Dame Church. I was like let’s not talk about it. Because I was into my career. I was like ‘let me think about it’. Obviously two days later I was like ‘Yeah,’” she added.

MS Dhoni â“ The Untold Story takes a solid opening

MS Dhoni – The Untold Story takes a solid opening

MS Dhoni – The Untold Story starring Sushant Singh Rajput, based on the life of India skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, is one of the most-awaited films of 2016. And why not? Give the nation a story about the man they love, playing the sport they’re crazy about, back it up with a director like Neeraj Pandey and bam! you’ve hit the right chords.

The film has also been dubbed in Tamil and Telugu versions in South India and was promoted aggressively by the real and reel Dhoni. Well, the effect has been rather fruitful. With over 4000 screens allotted in the domestic market itself, MS Dhoni – The Untold Story has opened to a superb 70% occupancy. As per early trend reports, the single screen audiences, multiplex goers and reviewers have given it a thumbs up. The biopic will easily bank something around Rs. 20 crore today.

The advance bookings of the film are strong and the weekend is definitely going to be strong.

Movie Review: MS Dhoni: The Untold Story

Movie Review: MS Dhoni: The Untold Story

Rating: 3 stars

Quick take: An authentic personal account of MS Dhoni’s life

MS Dhoni: The Untold Story is a biopic that promises to give you never-heard-before details about an Indian sporting hero. The untold story of an Indian cricketing legend, under whom the Indian cricket team ascended from being good to great. The film reserves to contrasting halves for its storytelling effort. The first half establishes Dhoni as a character, a person and a boy who dreams big and hits bigger. The second half portrays him as an achiever and a lover. What the movie doesn’t do is get intimate. At least not with the cricketing great. Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s personal life has been depicted with detail, even his reported shy and aloof nature has been drawn out on the big screen to good effect. But the film does not touch upon a cricketer, his journey through dressing rooms and pitches and definitely not his conflicts or controversies. But the personal story of MS Dhoni, combined with director Neeraj Pandey’s no nonsense approach to filmmaking does give you a decent watch. At 190 minutes (a staggering 3+ hours) the movie does take its time. But it never drops the ball. It always manages to draw you in and that’s not such a bad feat.

The story kicks off with MS Dhoni’s birth and goes all the way up to his winning six in the 2011 World Cup final. The first half is set in ’80s and ’90s Ranchi as a bright-eyed Dhoni discovers the trappings of cricket over football. His prodigious talent makes him an instant favourite in the local circles. As he grows up, so does the imminent wait for his big break. His lower middle-class family does everything in their power to make Dhoni an international cricketer. The chances don’t come easy and the travails of a small town boy trying to live his dream make the first half of MS Dhoni authentic and genuinely fascinating. In reality, Dhoni is perceived as a simple and humble man, despite his herculean achievement and talents. The film’s setup does justice to that fact. It gives you a genuine and insightful peek into the life of an aspiring cricketer. It makes its play on the fact that dreaming big is okay and that achieving dreams doesn’t need miracles.

The second half though is an all new ball game. It just breezes through Dhoni’s cricketing life keeping focus on his romances and humility rather than his involvement in the politics of cricket. There is a brief mention of his aggressive selection policies, but everything else from his professional life is just conveniently omitted. You never quite get intimate with India’s most successful cricket captain. The focus is kept solely on a small town guy hitting it big on a global stage.

While MS Dhoni the film does not have the all-rounder ability of the person it’s inspired from, it excels within its limitations. Director Neeraj Pandey crafts an engaging story with Dhoni’s life. His efforts, especially with detailed production design and screenplay writing make even the 190 minutes seem balanced and nimble. Mention must also be made of the superb use of CGI in transferring Sushant Singh Rajput’s face onto real-life footage of Dhoni. The visual effects quality on offer is top notch all through.

The biggest contributor to the impact of the film though is its lead Sushant Singh Rajput. His efforts are pitch perfect. With every passing minute all you feel is that you’re actually watching Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Not some actor trying to be a cricketer and a confident but restrained man. He lives the part and makes Dhoni come alive. His cricketing shots and his body language are a masterclass. Sushant Singh Rajput’s efforts alone make the movie worth a watch. Supporting performances by Anupam Kher, Bhumika Chawla, Rajesh Sharma and Kumud Mishra are perfectly adequate. The heroines Disha Patani and Kiara Advani only come up in the second half and both ladies have marginal roles. Disha Patani though, does stand out with her screen presence.

MS Dhoni: The Untold Story is a long film but it does well to both entertain and engage its audience despite its length. While it may not draw on major insights into Dhoni’s cricketing career, it does make for a compelling story through his personal life. If you ever wanted to get up close and personal with MS Dhoni the person, this is the film to watch. Its a solid biopic, one that makes a true hero out of its subject.

Guess which star’s endorsement deals are in trouble?

So this star is going through a low phase in his career right now. His past few films haven’t done any good to his career. While he does have interesting films lined up, things are a little shaky.

A close source tells us that he’s missing out on some big endorsements. What’s more, the ones he’s already on board with are having second thoughts of renewing their contracts with him. However, the industry and audience is pretty confident he will bounce back soon.

Dhoni recommended Sushant Singh Rajput for his biopic

Dhoni recommended Sushant Singh Rajput for his biopic

As MS Dhoni – The Untold Story hits the screens today, here’s some interesting dope from the making days of the film. During the initial days of scripting, when the makers were looking to cast the title role, MSD himself suggested Sushant Singh Rajput. He’d seen Kai Po Che and Shuddh Desi Romance earlier and was mighty impressed by SSR. He felt that no other youngster is in the space to do a realistic biopic.

And the fact that both their individual journeys have so many similarities, Dhoni felt Sushant was the best choice for the film.

Destiny has its own was, alright.

Bollywood has officially banned all Pakistani talent

IMPPA has passed a resolution banning Pakistani artistes and technicians across the film, television and theatre mediums in India until normalcy is reinstated between India and Pakistan.

The ban will no doubt affect several Pakistani actors who have become household names in our country. Upcoming releases featuring Pakistani talent include Ali Zafar in Dear Zindagi, Fawad Khan in Ae Dil Ha Mishkil and Mahira Khan in Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees. However, IMPPA has clarified that projects that have already been completed don’t fall under the purview of the resolution.

“All the Pak actors who have already filmed in India, even if only for a day, will not be subjected to any delays or bans. These actors were granted permission by the Indian Government to work in the film industry. Now, they have all left the country and there will be no hindrance in the release of their projects,” said a source.

Apparently, when John was walking out of the theatre, a fan in order to get John’s attention, grabbed John’s T-shirt and ended up scratching John badly. In the spur-of-the-moment, a shocked John turned around and pulled up the fan for his act. He then went to his car and left the venue.

What happened next was interesting. The group of fans went to John’s house. They wanted to appologise for the uncalled for behaviour. John heard them out and spoke to them for a while and also clicked pictures with them. All’s well that ends well.
