Birthday Special: Preity Zinta’s super 6 performances of all time!

With her spectrum of contemporary roles that helped change the image of a Hindi film heroine, Preity Zinta has been a game-changer alright. Her contribution to humanitarian causes and in the field of cricket are further add-ons to the profile of this powerhouse actor! Vivacious, perky and absolutely fearless, Preity Zinta has often been dubbed as ‘the only man’ in the industry. Wishing the dimpled super star a happy 42nd birthday!

Here, we list down six of her most memorable roles…

11

Kya Kehna (2000)

Hers was an author-backed role of Priya Bakshi, a teenaged girl who becomes a single mother. A sensitive movie handling a sensitive issue marked her arrival as a sensitive actor who could pull off a movie single-handedly. The film won her a nomination at the Filmfare Awards for the Best Actor in a Leading Role (Feamle) Category.

22

Dil Chahta Hai (2001)

As Shalini with those wild curls, Preity looked fresh and modish in the cult film. She masterfully portrayed the act of today’s girl wavering between naiveté and self-assertion. Jaane kyun remains an anthem for Preity fans!

33

Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003)

She played Naina Catherine Kapoor and made us laugh, cry, connect and love… Her chemistry with both Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan was crackling! The 10/10 performance made her bag the Filmfare Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Female) category.

44

Veer Zaara (2004)

Directed by Yash Chopra in the cross-border romance opposite Shah Rukh Khan… PZ as Zaara Hayat Khan played the royal rebel with grace and dignity. The movie went on to become the highest grosser of 2004 and bagged the Filmfare Award for the Best Film. Zinta also got nominated for the Best Actor in a Leading Role (Female) category.

55

Salaam Namaste (2005)

Essaying the role of a radio jockey, Preity gave an accomplished performance as Ambar Malhotra who is fiercely independent and yet sentimental. It was easy to fall in love with her character and that’s exactly why she fetched her fifth Filmfare Best Actor in a Leading Role (Female) nomination.

66

Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006)

A movie way ahead of its times touched the topic of infidelity in a delicate way. Preity Zinta played Rhea Saran, the fashion editor of a leading magazine who is career-oriented, ultra-voguish and a loving wife and mother. And yet behind all this she portrayed the vulnerability of a woman who’s let down by her man. She won the Filmfare nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Female).

Soha Ali Khan turns writer!

Who knew an author lurks in the beautiful Soha Ali Khan? The actress is all set to debut as an author this year, with a collection of humorous and bizarre stories on her life as a royal princess and a ‘moderately famous’ celebrity. The title of her book ‘The Perils Of Being Moderately Famous’ speaks volumes itself and the book delivers everything fun and exciting. In a recent interview, Soha said, “I can use this time creatively to pen down memories, some insights from what surely must be a life less ordinary. I am a princess (her official title is Nawabzadi Soha Ali Khan of Pataudi and Bhopal) after all. If you are hoping I will reveal the secret behind Kareena‘s glowing complexion or how Bhai (Saif) trains for an action film then, I am afraid you are barking up the wrong book. Although, in its pages there may be a passing reference to some of the idiosyncrasies of the more famous members of my family, the bulk of it, I’m afraid, is about…Well, me. Just me.” Well, we can’t wait to know more about JUST YOU, Soha!

âœIâm not scared of anything.â â“ Deepika Padukone

“I’m not scared of anything.” – Deepika Padukone

Our chat with cover girl Deepika Padukone was full of intimate confessions. Here’s an excerpt of DP talking about being socially awkward yet totally fearless when it comes to work…

For someone who refers to herself as socially awkward, you’re out jet-setting and charting new territory in the West.

I am socially awkward. It’s not like that I don’t want to be social or I don’t like to go out. It means that it’s not always easy for me to be in those situations. I enjoy talking to people, I love meeting new people. I enjoy going out. But sometimes that’s exactly opposite of the way I feel. I’m truly awkward. But I guess, I’ve overcome that by acknowledging that’s just how I am. I’ve accepted it. I don’t try and fight that feeling. Sometimes I’ve people coming up to me and asking me, “Are you bored?” But I’m not. Even if I’m bored, I’m enjoying myself in a situation where people are talking and I’m observing all that.

Do you have any fears or inhibitions still left to conquer?

I’m not scared of anything. I’m absolutely fearless when it comes to my work. Which wasn’t the case when I started off. And that fear or uncertainty came across and it showed on camera. I was conscious and too bothered by the idea of delivering my lines or making gestures in front of the camera. But over the years I’ve changed. The change occurred because I began trusting myself, my instincts and the directors I was working with.

Sidharth Malhotra says he isn’t under pressure to reprise Rajesh Khanna’s role in ‘Ittefaq’ remake

The tall and super handsome Sidharth Malhotra will soon be stepping in the shoes of the late superstar Rajesh Khanna. The film will be a remake of Yash Chopra’s murder mystery Ittefaq and will be jointly produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, Dharma Productions and BR Films. According to a leading daily, Sid said, “It is an adaptation and not a direct remake of Ittefaq. There are changes made to the story so it reduces the pressure of filling in the shoes of a huge superstar like Rajesh Khannaji.” The star also said that he’s a huge fan of the yesteryear actor and picked Anand as his favourite from the list of superhits delivered by Rajesh Khanna.

If rumours are to be believed, DeePee is all set to turn brand ambassador of a super popular international cosmetic brand, which already has Sonam Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on board. Katrina Kaif was part of this prestigious list as well. However, reports suggest that Kat’s contract has come to an end. This is Sanjay Leela Bhansaliâs official statement on the attacks on the Padmavati set

This is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s official statement on the attacks on the Padmavati set

The unfortunate attack on ace filmmaker; Sanjay Leela Bhansali during the filming of his period film Padmavati in Jaipur left B-town in utter shock. Several actors came forth to support the director via social media but there was no statement from Bhansali himself. Finally, the director’s team has released an official statement on behalf of him, clarifying that there isn’t any objectionable scene between Rani Padmavati and Allaudin Khilji (the rumour which instigated the attack).

The official statement says:

“Sanjay Leela Bhansali has shot two films in Jaipur and despite his love for Rajasthan, for the safety of his crew, we have decided to stop the shoot and leave the city post the shocking incident where miscreants damaged property and misbehaved with the crew on the shoot of ‘Padmavati’. SLB had directed the opera ‘Padmavati’ to packed houses in Paris and earned worldwide praise for it. He was inspired by the beautiful and courageous queen and is making a feature film on the story. We clarify that there is no dream sequence or any objectionable scene between Rani Padmavati and Allauddin Khilji. We have been carefully researching and making the film. In spite of this, the attack on the shoot and crew was uncalled for and was extremely damaging to the image of the beautiful city of Jaipur. We are grateful to the authorities at Jaipur who responded promptly and limited the damage on shoot. We are confident that Mewar will be proud of the film made on their revered queen. We do not want to hurt any sentiments and would appreciate if the local people support us in making this film and making their queen revered by the world.”

Sushant Singh Rajput removed his surname on Twitter to show his solidarity towards filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who was assaulted by activists of Karni Sena, an organization of the Rajput community. Sushant said he dropped his surname for a day to convey that he does not represent people from that community, who employed violence as a means to show disapproval. According to a leading daily, Sushant said, “Yes, I did it for a day to show that the unfortunate action is not what everyone with that surname endorses. They do not represent the entire Rajputs. There are ways to express your ideas, but violence is never an answer and that too just on mere speculation.” Well, we totally agree with you, Sushant!
